Hello
Does anyone know if the 1KZT 3.0 Turbo Diesel uses the same manual gearbox as the V6.

Hello
Does anyone know if the 1KZT 3.0 Turbo Diesel uses the same manual gearbox as the V6.

It uses a R151F with a 160 mm input shaft length (6.5" long), same as the 86-87 turbo truck trannys. The R151F in the 1KZ vehicles has a chain driven Tcase. You can use the 3.0L v6 gearbox on the 1KZ-TE bellhousing, but not the 3.4L v6 because it's input shaft is 190 mm long (7.5").

By the way, Jarco has one with an automatic tranny from a 93-95 Surf. Contact Michael Hooper <mhooper@jarcoinc.com, 770-479-4942  8am-6pm Eastern (M-F). He tells me he drove the vehicle and it's a strong running engine. I believe there's a video clip of it on their website http://www.jarcoinc.com/video/feb05/KZN130-9003222.WMV

Thank you for the information :)

I am going for an engine swap, 2LT to 1KZT
And I were thinking of a dual transfer.
You said it uses a R151F tranny, does that mean that I can bolt the 4cyl transfer on ?
Or do I need the V6 adapter?

The R151F from a 86-87 turbo truck (22R-TE) engine will both to the 1KZ-TE bellhousing as it also comes with the R151F gearbox. However the latter gearbox is different in that it has a chain driven Tcase while the 86-87 turbo truck has a gear driven Tcase. You can also use a R150F from a North American 3.0 liter v6 truck on the 1KZ-TE's bellhousing but it also sports a chain driven Tcase.

If your 2L-T has a R series gearbox, I'm interested in the bellhousing. It won't fit a 1KZ-TE engine, and neither will the 3.0 liter v6 bellhousing fit it.

I live in Norway,so the 22R-TE engine has not been sold here :shakehead:
The 2LT uses a G58 gearbox

Let see if I have got it right.
I need only the transfer from the 22R TE since they uses the same R151F Gearbox. And I can use any kind of gear driven transfer for the second?

Anyone know if the 22R TE engine are sold outside the US?

The 22R-TE (turbo trucks and 4Runners) were only sold in the US and Canada to my knowledge. The output shaft and housing on the R151F attached to the 22R-TE is different than the 3.0 liter v6 or 1KZ-TE R151F. One is for the gear driven Tcase, the other is for a chain driven Tcase. You can use either gearbox on the 1KZ-TE bellhousing. Marlin makes an adapter to install a geardriven Tcase on the R151F that originally came with a chain driven model.

Does your G58 gearbox have a gear driven or chain driven Tcase?

My G58 uses a gear driven transfer.
Okey,so if I get the adapter for the R151F, I can bolt on any kind of geardriven Tcase right?

If you're using a R151F that comes stock with the 1KZ-T, 1KZ-TE, or 3.0 liter v6 you'll need Marlin's adapter to fit it to your gear driven Tcase.

If you're using a R151F that came from a 86-87 turbo truck in the US/Canadian market (22R-TE) you'll need to use the Tcase that came with it (as it has a 23 spline input shaft). Otherwise you'll need to convert your G58's gear driven Tcase to a 23 spline input shaft. Marlin has those also.

Now my head are start spinning :smack:
Are you 100% sure that the 1kzt uses the R151F?
Talked to Marlin yesterday, and they ment it uses the 150..

I think I should post a pic of the gearbox and transfer,so can we take it from there :)

Interesting, you may want to ask Marlin if your gear driven Tcase (attached to a G58) will physically bolt up to a G52/G54, or W56 gearbox? Those all accomodate a 21 spline Tcase input shaft. If your Tcase won't bolt to them, it certainly won't bolt to a R151F robbed from a 22R-TE equipped vehicle - even if you replace your Tcase's original input shaft with a 23 splne unit.

My presumption is the R151F behind the 1KZ engine and the R150F behind the 3.0 liter v6's use the same chain driven Tcase.

Therefore the only thing I can say for sure is that one can bolt a R151F from a 86-87 turbo truck (22R-TE) or a R150F from a 3.0 liter v6 truck to the 1KZ bellhousing. The bellhousing to gearbox bolt pattern matches, and the gearbox input shaft length is 160 mm - same as the stock R151F behind the 1KZ's bellhousing.

Unbolted the transfer case yesterday.
And here is the bolt pattern. Seems to me that it uses the same chaindriven transfer
It has 23 splines on the shaft
Then I just have to get the adapter plate for the V6 right?

That is the pattern we can work with. That is the same as our 30-4gt ( R150f {23 spline} and G58 {26 spline} ).
