Cluster fuse blowing after 30 mins 88 toyota 3.0 3vze
« on: Oct 30, 2013, 05:34:54 PM »
Anyone run into this?
Cluster fuse blows after 30 mins running then charge light comes on. Trucks stops charging. Alternator fuse good. Truck runs like dog do when fuse blows with good battery.  No effect with turn signals, or other functions.
Any one figured this to be a bad alternator? thats what I am hopping it is not. Alternator replaced 2 years ago with dense factory rebuilt
one relatively recently, truck not driven but in the winter.

ok still working on this one. changed out alternator still same result.
truck docent blow fuse when alternator unplugged, as soon as you plug it in pop goes the fuse. after 30 mins of run time...
Next step is to reground every thing with fresh wire on the ground side. feeling at this point the rust on the body is creating grounding
issues with the system. leaky grounds.

:thumbs:Ok I figured it out! It turns out the tachometer was the culprit. through a long process before a need for snow work, I pulled the cluster and removed the 3 screws that feed the tach. presto no more charging problems or random fusses blowing...
