Transfercase output threads damaged
« on: Aug 25, 2013, 09:44:03 PM »
I have a transfercase that has a output which looks like someone hit the end with a hammer when they were trying to dent the nut. Anyway I can't get a new nut to start without it trying to go sideways. Anyone know where I can buy a thread chaser this big or a trick to clean up the first three threads?

A very fine touch with a dremel cut-off wheel to chase the threads.........

get a very small triangle file, and file the threads.  Or buy a actually thread chasing file, it doesnt do much as remove metal as it puts it back in its place
Dr.Maxwe001 – well i have a 15 gal compressor now and if I gett he 60  and then use the 15 as a reserve that wil give me 75 gal  thats close to 80 isnt it ?

A fine angle file and some patience will be the best option.  Or find another output shaft.
