Toyota R151F rebuild
« on: Sep 05, 2012, 06:10:00 AM »
good day all.

my Toyota Surf 1994 has been a great car a quite capable. hoever a few months ago it started jumping out of first gear and I noticed that the bearings started to sound a bit rough. so out it came for a rebuild, easy enough i thought. well all is striped and cleaned. I noticed that 2nd gear has atooth missing and will therefore need to be replaced. the problem is that because its a jap import to the Australia market no one seems to have one nor do they seem to want to be of assistance. add to that that when the bearing kit arrived today it was the wrong kit and the spplier does not know which is the correct one now.

so I was wondering if I might be able to get what I need from Marlin Crawler?
Any help and suggestions would be great at this stage.

thanks
Marchy.

From what I'm understanding, your best option would be to call them, very early in the morning.  That way they can be 100% sure that the tranny you have is the R151F.  Does it have the removable rubber plug in the bottom of the bellhousing?  And they should be able to search out in the scrap pile for the gear you need.  And if you call them, be patient when trying to get through to them.  They are very busy, and generally short handed up front, because they sometimes pull the salesmen to help fill orders in the back.

 :welcome: to Marlin!!

hello Cheesemaker

thanks for getting back to me. NO. My box does not have the removeable plug from the bell housing, hoever the vin plate on the vehicle has the trans Model: R151F G294, stamped on it so I assume it is the R151F with a differnt bell housing on it as it is hooked up to a 1KZ-TE motor. the more research I do the more confused I get.

yes I will give them a ring and see what they say. the rebuild kit they show online looks like the right one but difficult to be sure.

thanks again
Marchy

If you can when you call in , see if Mike or Marlin can talk to you.  They are the guys to help you out if possible.

But be persistent when you call, sometimes, you will be put on hole, or you won't be able to get through.  But don't give up, or get frustrated.  And they are open monday - thursday.
