G52 Shift Levers
« on: Jul 21, 2012, 11:27:51 AM »
Tried searching but couldn't find anything... probably didn't look hard enough. Does anyone have any helpful hints for removing shift levers from a g52 tranny to replace ball seat lever things. never can get the name right. FSM says use SST and voila on to next step :hammerhead:

I don't have that tool and don't plan on buying any expensive SSTs for my rig, i will fab up whatever works and do it the correct DIY way.

Anyone help would be greatly appreciated. now starts the vast search of pirate or dare risk being told to search 30 times. :maddest: hopefully the kind people on this board :turtle: will be of true assistance

Also as i have never done this repair before how is the work, can i do it one handed? chopped the tip of my finger off and doc said no use of hand until it heals :smack: :bull crap:

Are you talking about replacing the shifter seat?

You have to take the shifter off the tranny, move the boot out of the way, and press and twist (at the same time) on the metal piece that is in the shifter base. There is a notch holding everything in place you have to get around and a spring inside.

Here's a pic I stole off google images

I would say it's a two hand job, good luck!

thats exactly what i was taking about. so its just a push down and twist motion on that assembly under the boot and that will free the shift lever allowing me access the seat.

well looks like I'm using two hands then... shifter has terrible slop and I've had a brand new seat sitting on the workbench ready to go in

Yep, that's it. Push all the way down, then twist. All you really need is your thumbs, a vice helps.
