Thorley and Flowmaster 60,Quiet?
« on: Aug 02, 2012, 02:38:05 PM »
Finally I bit the bullet and ordered my the Doug Thorley header from Amazon,$50 cheaper there because of the outrageous shipping charged from DT $40, compared to 3.99 Overnight shipping!

Anyway paired header with a Flowmaster 60 delta flow muffler at 2.25in. Going to get header put on Sunday and rest of system will be put on Monday.

Just curious if you guys think about how loud this will be? You think I need to add a louvered glasspack in to quiet things down more?

I don't want to get a headache from driving the thing!

I've always had a straight pipe out the back with just a cat on the truck..it doesn't annoy me and sounds quiet to me..but then again I'm not 52 years old

I'd think it'd be fairly quiet with a Flow 60..worst case you can add a small resonator like a 10" one after to quiet the "tone" down and mellow it to a smoother tone.

Got the header on today, and it's NOT quiet lol. No exhaust though, going on in the morning, flowmaster 60 series and the rest of the tailpipe. Getting rid of the cat, so header to pipe to muffler to tailpipe. I don't think I'll have a backflow pressure problem.

It's fun running without an exhaust.

I thought mine was way too loud without the cat. I need it for smog anyway so I put a high flow cat from Summit on. Sounds way better to me with a cat. Sounds more powerful, runs great, passes smog and isn't obnoxious.

I am going to put a perforated glasspack in to mellow it down. It sounds fine at low rpm but once you get up, it gets REAL ricey. LOL
