So I have been looking at doing the IFS hub conversion. While looking for information on how to do this, the information was hard to come by. I have decided to do a step-by-step process on how I am going about it. I have decided to go with the FJ60 rotors and the V-6 calipers. I know there are a few different ways to do this swap but this is how I have decided to do it. Remember I just used the stuff from my SAS swap so everything was off the truck and I was able to do it on a table.
1.) Remove the 2 17mm bolts holding the caliper on.
2.) Remove the caliper.
3.)Remove the 6 10mm bolts from the outer hub.
4.) Remove the outer hub.
5.) Remove the 12mm bolt on the inner CV axle.
6.) Remove the 6 12mm nuts off the inner hub
7.) Remove the 6 washers from the studs.
8.) GENTLY tap just above the studs to get the cone washers to come out. (CAUTION: put your finger at the end of the stud so the cone washers dont shoot off and get lost)
9.) Remove the inner hub.
10.) Gently tap the tabs on the lock washer to allow the outer jam nut to move.
11.) Use a 2 1/8 socket to remove the outer jam nut
12.) Remove the lock washer
13.) Use the 2 1/8 socket to remove the inner nut.
14.) Gently pull the rotor and pull out the flat washer and outer bearing.
15.) Remove the rotor and hub from the spindle.
16.) Remove the 6 14mm bolts holding the rotor to the hub.
17.)Use a dead blow and hit the inner hub surface to separate from the rotor.
18.) Use a pry bar and remove the inner seal and inner bearing.
This is just the start. I am going to rebuild the caliper and put all new bearing and races. So I will put in the part numbers as I go.
These are the weapons I have chosen.
1.) 2 1/8 Ύ drive socket and breaker bar. (Used to remove 2 jam nuts)
2.) 24 pry bar (used to remove inner seal)
3.) 11 pry bar (used to tap back lock washer tabs)
4.) 18VOLT impact (Used to remove bolts)
5.) 24oz ball peen hammer (Used for hitting and tapping)
6.) 42oz Dead Blow (Gentle tapping)
7.) 6 ½ drive extension
8.) 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, 17mm sockets
