what are your guys thoughts on how much to cut off each individual spring?   you have your main leaf and wrap then each leaf from there after progressively get's smaller... but by how much?  does it matter?  i'd imagine the more spring you leave the stiffer the ride.   :dunno:

comments?

I don't know how much it matters as far as how much to cut off between leafs...but you'd be right in thinking that the longer they are they should be a bit stiffer. I just kinda gauged what the spread was in the stock pack and cut the 'added in' leafs to follow suit with those.  I figure it's easier to go with what's there (basically) without overthinking the whole process and adjust it later if need be.

well the only problem with that is you can always recut the springs but once they're cut your kinda screwed.. unless you wanna go locate another spring pack and do it all over again.

I'm thinking about cutting them down in 2" increments and going from there.

I totally winged it, and basically cut them to what I thought looked good.  This is what I came up with. It is six leaves using two stock pairs of springs.    They are super soft, flex like crazy and I definately need to put bumpstops back in there.  I wouldnt be afraid go with a 7 leaf pack either, just dont try five. I tried a five leaf pack and they flattened out in no time, and were negative soon after that.

yea i picked up a 2 leaf pack from a 94' T-100 just in case I needed to add a leaf. I'm also gonna start with a 6 leaf pack consisting of stock rears from an 87 4runner and a 89 extra cab pick up.

just got finished painting the leafs.. gotta get some 3/4" flat bar for the clamps and some grade 8 bolts. I'll post the results when i'm finished, really hoping it doesn't give me too much lift.

thats exactly what I used, it seems that the springs from the 89 are a bit softer, Dont worry about getting to much lift.  I barely trimmed anything off my fenders, and I was running the same tires you are.

here's how mine sat

Ok I have a question, when doing the rufs I saw that guys would say cut so many inches off the leaf but I would like to know if to cut say 2 inches on each side of the leaf or just 2 inches total

You just want a staggered pack. I can't remember how much I cut off mine, but 2 inches total wouldn't be enough.

On mine I did stock 86 4runner left the 3leafs uncut then did the next left 2inches shorter on each side to make it 4inchs total, I didn't that to the next 2 also, the leafs just look long compared to some I have seen

Those look too long. I'd say take another inch or two off each leaf, just look at some pics of other setups. If you aren't planning on running spring clamps I'd recommend those too.

I thought they seemed long, I'm going to cut a inch more on each side, and the clamps I messed up realized I shouldn't have cut them off till it was to late, any pointers on what I should do to replace them with?
