« on: Jan 05, 2012, 10:52:38 AM »
i have a buddy who is  rebuilding his whole truck, and considering these 3 engines, i want the pros and cons and what trannys he can use, he really wants to use a Chevy nv4500 and don't want a auto, and plans on using a atlas 4 speed. any feed back would be sweet! thanks

Unless he wants adapters, a 4.3 is the way to go.  I woulds go with an SM465 tranny and get that granny low,  he'll be crawling lower than most with the atlas in High.

Since the 1uz weighs the same as a 3rz. And its still all toyota, which I happen to still like. I vote 1uz.

Unless you have deep pockets it's all about what's available.
Thats how I decided what motor to swap in. A 4.3 opportunity presented it's self and I took it.

I think he's going 4.3 so he can run a nv4500 tranny I don't think he can run that if he gets a 1uz

Just put in the R tranny, it will handle the power with room to spare.

Just put in the R tranny, it will handle the power with room to spare.

GM corporate V8 bellhousng to engine bolt pattern
GM specific input shaft measuring 6-5/8" in length, 1.125" in diameter with 10 splines and a .590" diameter pilot
All 2wd use a fixed yoke output
All 4wd use a GM specific 32 spline output

1992–1994 RPO MT8 Features:

GM NV4500 Transmission to bellhousing bolt pattern (not the same as GM 4speeds)
Right hand mounted hydraulic slave cylinder with fork mounted throwout bearing

MT8 Gear ratios:
1    2    3    4    5    R
6.34 (1993) 5.61 (1994 on)    3.44    1.71    1.00    0.73    6.34

5.61 gear ratio in first

4.3 you dont need the V-8. The weight over power gain in a Toyota is not enough to make it worth it.
