how to id transmissions
« on: Dec 08, 2011, 12:28:36 PM »
I have 2 transmissions that I need to identify, I know they are fwd shift, 4x4 trannys, but don't know what they came out of. I know they are g or w series, but don't know which. Is there a serial number stamped on them somewhere, and where would I find it?

Thanks Goldrush. Ok, I got it narrowed to g52's or g54's. How can I identify which I have? Is one better/stronger then the other?

The g54 has bigger bearings thus is stronger and will last longer than the 52.

Ok. Is there any way to tell the two apart without taking them apart?
