beadlock questions
« on: Nov 21, 2011, 06:46:21 PM »
obviously i dont know what im talking about but i had a wheel question. what is the difference between a streetlok and a beadlok? a streetlok doesnt actually hold the tire on the bead at low air pressure or what? also can you run beadlocks for instance like the red marlin truck every day on the road? :help:  :dunno: thanks

A street lock is a phony bead lock.  A bead lock clamps the bead so it doesn't unseat.  Wether either holds air depends on pressure and installer.  Both can be run on the street, but one is most likely illegal (if you get caught).

  I live in Cali and I have yet to hear of someone getting a ticket, or a cop that knows what their looking at.  I'd run em.

In oregon the reason they are illegal is because if its faulty and the tire is low, it will come off the rim

Most split rims were outlawed due to catastrophic failure issues. When the ring is improperly seated they could blow off with great velocity and have killed people. I think the only rim still legal is the 2 piece. Sure the beadlock is bolted on but it will still fall under the split rim catagory. Not all city P.D. will see it but I bet most all CHP know what they are looking at.

  Just don't be a little b%*&ch when you get pulled over and he may only site you for what he pulled you over in the first place. On my way to TDS once a Indio PD pulled me over for no mudflaps, talked with him pleasantly and he didn't even site me at all. I told him I only use the truck on the trails or to get to them.

Aren't the Stazwork double beadlocks DOT approved?

Found these that claim they are DOT http://www.high-impact.net/wheels/dot_approved_beadlocks.htm.

With there being both real and faux DOT approved beadlocks, you can't be stopped simoly for havimng them on your rig.  No LEO can tell from a distance that they aren't DOT approved.  However once stopped, you could be cited for them not being DOT approved, just like you can be for uncovered non DOT approved lights, window glass, seatbelts, etc..

Stand corrected, did not realize the Stazworks were actually DOT approved.

Looks more like just a 2 piece rim like a Hummer's, don't know what that insert is that they say is a beadlock?

for what its worth, a few years ago a friend of mine was stopped only one mile from the Superlift park in HotSprings AR.  the cop told him he would have to remove those wheels and get home on a different "legal" wheel.   he told the cop he was only going a mile up the road but the cop refused to let him leave.   friend told him it was only one mile and that he never drove it on the highway.  cop told him if he moved one inch he would fine him $500 and have the truck impounded.
he finally called his Mom and she brought his stock wheels to him one at a time in the trunk of her car.  she wasnt happy.   :(

Stauns are legal.   :yesnod:
