biggest tire size with lunch box locker?
« on: Dec 30, 2009, 11:34:45 PM »
i have a 85 toyota pickup, stock 22re, 5.29 gears, and 37's.  i'm currently running an 4cyl. third with an aussie locker in the front, which seems to be working great, and a v6 third in the rear with an Easy Locker in the rear.  last trip to rubicon, i sheared the 4+pins  in the carrier that holds everything together.  any idea what the biggest tire size recomendation is with a luch box style locker? i probably going to spool it, but just thought i would check before i ordered up a spool.

if your ok with being locked all the time in the rear

**** ya just spool it or weld it. I ran welded rear and lockrite front on 37s held up fine

I run 36" iroks on lockrights front and rear and it works just fine. spool in the rear and e-locker or arb up front would be nice though.

i would rather have a locker, but can't really afford a detroit.  my truck doesn't see the road a whole lot, maybe 1000 miles a year if that.  thats why i'm more leaning towards a spool.

If you are only on the road 1000 miles a year then it's a no brainer for me. Weld it! :beerchug:

i know a few people who have grenaded the carrier because it was welded.  i thought about it, but for $69 and bit of time, i'll have to go with a spool.

yeah man welded diffs don't ruin anything if done right. Ive welded like 20 haha drift cars millions of toyota diffs 1 tons anything haha none have broken. But either way some thing come from a spool. Im "spooled" front and rear haha welded that is and not troubles I rarely drive mine on the road. I personally see nothing bad from them is less shock load on parts as to where a locker is popping and ingaging disingaging causes problems in my eyes.

i ended up getting a spool from dura solid.  $69 new!  couldn't pass it up.  put it in this last sunday.  now i remember why i did away with a spool the first time.  i'm just glad its not my daily driver.  it sure is nice not having the popping and jerking though.  i'm happy with it.

spools and welded fronts or rears are the only way to roll.    cheap and eazy.   i run 37s and have had no problem so far.    knock on wood.
i love oregon wheelin.

This was the direct email from Kevin @ DuraSolid

No Sir there is no error on our website. The price $69.00 was our
introductory price and now we have made it $94.95 as the cost of
manufacturing and raw material has gone up it is a genuine price according
to market for a quality product.

The prices we have listed is the the best possible and cannot do any
discount on the same.

Regards

Kevin
