22re Auto options?
« on: Mar 07, 2011, 06:27:11 PM »
Trying to see what options are out there for a 22re auto, and what all is needed to swap from manual to auto. Any info would help.

either way, you wouldent need much other than the wiring and ecu for the auto, the auto, the flex plate and torque converter, thats about it, theres alot of wiring involved with the auto isnt there?

The autos are electronically controlled so you can't just toss one in, you'll need all the harnesses.

What about doing something like a th350 trans or something mechanical? Has anyone done it? I just think a auto is easier on big inclines on rock beds.

Yes that is possible, you will need an adapter since they won't just mate up.

....and depending on what tcase you want to run, GM or Toyota you will need another adapter to go from the 350 back to a Toyota. If you just use the GM tcase then you won't need it.

Autos are the best for wheelin'  accept no substitute. If you need a haulin' highway rig then an auto will be slower but once you hit the trail they are awesome. I don't run any factory electronics just a manual shift controller.  With dual cases and 36" IROK's this baby wheel's. I don't DD mine and 20mi to the mnts. is all the road it sees. If I want to get there faster I'll put it on my trailer behind my Dodge Quad Cab Cummins. Do a search there a alot of guys going to autos. All my adapters are Marlin of course. Did I mention I love autos!

I just pulled an auto out of mine. There are coolant lines that run to the radiator aswell. Also there is a cable that runs to the left side that at first I thought was the speedo cable. It wasn't, and I have no idea what it was for.

It might be cheaper and easier to just buy one with an auto. Just a thought.

Ya think by best bet is to buy a parts truck that has a auto and swap it all then sell the 5 speed swap stuff and hope to come out somewhat even.

Yeah, easy to find. Most guys don't know how good autos wheel so they sell them cheap. I paid, $350-400 for the one in my truck(A340F), I bought spares for $175 for a V6 setup(A340H), and $300 for a 3RZ setup from a Taco(A340F?), that's trans and t-case. If you want to keep it all stock then the A340H is the easiest/cheapest to find. I did just talk to a guy that has a A340F setup like mine, very rare. I think the guys at Marlin said they have only seen 3 or 4.
