Been driving my Toy for almost 3 years and now all of a sudden the motorcycle cops give me crap on no mudflaps.... Bunch of BS in my opinion.

Now I have to make some flappies for the truck.  Boo

Ive driven mine every day for over 3 years to where i work..  18 miles or so one way.  And never had an issue until late last year i got pulled over for no mud flaps and no front plate.

So dealing with california law, i put mudflaps and my front plate on it.  Went down to the local police department and they want like $14 to come outside and look at the vehicle to sign off and i didn't want to pay that fee,  So i drove down to CHP office and the officer signed off on the plate, but wouldn't sign off on the flaps, said i needed flairs too.     :kickbutt:

So i went and talked to a college police officer i somewhat know.  and he signed off without a problem.

Put some flaps on it for sure.. and i don't know if you like this idea, but i really want to do the fender hoops on my truck with some tubing to help save the body, that might help the police from pulling you over for no "flares" since it will look like the body is sticking out further.

Exactly..

That would stick out a little more and prob wouldn't cost you too much, and would protect much more than some plastic flares.

Nice 1st gen.  having a more street friendly tire set would be good, you won't wear down your expensive dirt tires and get better mpg without cop trouble

Try these, you can get them pretty cheap from sources like this one by the foot. They are a hard rubber so they won't crack.

That plastic lawn edging with the rolled edge works pretty good.  I don't run any myself though.  It's mudflaps up here...

Yeah I got it under control now. Got pulled over last spring finally, gave me a warning because I at least had mud flaps on. Went to work bought some plastic mudflaps for $20, then went to walmart and bought some L shaped brackets and bolted them up. No more problems

mud flaps? fenders? .. what weird laws. Those police officers would freak out if they moved out here. I think the only thing you HAVE to have is a windshield and a hood, but I've seen plenty make it around without a hood. Hah

i just talked to a police officer in socal (carlsbad) and he said that either the mudflap or the fender needs to extend to at least the middle of the hub, behind the tire

he also said, if it were him, he really doesn't trip about it unless the vehicle is clearly slinging up rocks, or he sees another reason to pull you over

we are deployed together in afghanistan, he is a reservist

Just run mud flaps, its one less reason to get stopped for nothing.

I do find it funny when,
A cop will pass someone make an illiegal U turn, then speed to catch up, like the 4x4 is really going to speed off,lol then light them up, all for mud flaps or some fix it ticket, cracked window, no bumper, ect.

I had a chp 7 years ago pass me on a really windy highway (hwy 70 by quincy)
I was in my old mr2, he did 100 past me, nailed his brakes, by the time he made the u turn in the curve, I was a mile up the road, I knew he was gonna pull me over so I was already pulled over, he was doing 100+ again had to nail his brakes a gain, then had to backup to pull behind me, gets out all pissed off and ask's wheres your front plate, I simply got out and pointed and said right there, ah the look on his face, how do you miss a damn liscense plate?
then he told me to turn on my fog lights and that they werent dot approved.
I bent down by them and said they say dot approved right on the lenses,
he must of felt like a total iddiot,
I was nice to him throught it all, we all make mistakes.
he only wanted my cdl# to record the stop on his paperwork.

The justice system is so screwed up, I heard they are going to release some sex offenders early. Yet Barry bonds could go to jail for being vague during his court appearance.
