the bushings inside the spindles support the axles. replace them, even worn bushings will let the axle sit on the outer seals and cause leaking gear oil

Yeah! exactly those.
My outer axle (birfield) isn't centered in the spindle so I was wondering if it was due to this or some other ailment in the knukle ball. What I mean is the spline end in the spindle hole, where it attaches to the hub, where the c-clip goes, where you thread the spindle, got the idea?
BTW I got brand new seals/gaskets everywhere in the axle right now exept these bushings.

so I got new axle bushings in there but the axle is still binding on the spindle hard with no play to be centered by outer hub. The binding is on the side of the spindle not top nor bottom of spindle, so I don't think is the shims on the knuckles....I've played with the shims with no results.

BTW how much is the axle shaft supposedto extend outside of the spindle?

Dang it!!!
I picked up this housing from someone else and thought it was in perfect conditions.
I was rebuilding it w/new everything and thought it was a done deal... I did think it was bent (though you can't tell by just looking at it)but didn't want to jump into any conclusions w/o eliminating all other factors. The bend is on the passenger side then.  Any suggestions beside just dumping it?

i have this same problem!!

it's not up or down in the spindle.  the axle pushes against the side of the spindle, and it's not letting the hub engage all the way when i get it all together.

one problem with the housing being bent.......the axle pushes backwards toward the rear of the vehicle.......that seems to me that the tire would have to hit something so hard that it would bend the spindle housing forward, but that means the vehicle would have to be in REVERSE.  this problem has never happened to me, i guess i could have hit a rock or something going backwards.......
