Oil coming out my dipstick ?
« on: Mar 07, 2011, 10:07:56 AM »
I have a 85 with a 22r.  The motor has about 60,000 miles with about 15,000 on a rebuilt head. I have replaced the pcv, and checked compression. It has 160, 185,175,160 lbs dry compression in order from 1st to 4th cyl. No coolant in the oil. all plugs are burning clean. I do not have any vac from the port coming out of the Carb to the PCV could it be a carb issue ?   The rig died on me coming out of the hills. It will run without a miss at idle but sputters when I put a load on it like taking off. It's pushing oil out the dipstick and out the filler cap when open. Anyone have any suggestions where to look ?

Your compressions seems ok, but it sure does soundlike blow by to have oil coming out of the dipstick tube.

on the no vaccum thing, might check the line going to your brake booster, if the diaphragm in the booster went I would think you would loose your vacuum, mine went out but it only messed up the running when I would actually hit the brakes.
There is a fine line between clever and stupid, I just wish I knew when I crossed it.

Almost sounds like there is pressure build up in crankcase to have raw oil coming out of the dipstick hole.

Shouldn't push oil out the dip stick tube at all since the opening is above the oil level. Blow by is another issue, if it is pushing oil out then there is something filling it up to the point that it can be pushed up the tube. Could it be over filled with oil?

I just replaced the oil,  used the 5 quart jug. When I pull the dipstick it marks at the full level not past.

I generally run 4.5 qts. That's been a perfect fill, for me.

I noticed my dipstick dosent seat very well in the tube and it's missing the rubber piece towards the end would that make a difference ? I will remove some oil and see if that works, I never had to before ?  Could a blown head gasket produce back pressure ?

Why yes it could if you over-fill it.
