Camper Shell in the Snow
« on: Nov 30, 2010, 08:16:43 PM »
Will the added wait of having a camper shell on my pickup in the deep snow help out and give more traction for the rear tires or is it going to add more weight to the rig and make it want to sink???

Its a Toyota, its still gonna float, now with more rear traction. :)

One of the best most successfull snow wheeling trips I have ever been on was with my '94 pickup all loaded down with food, tools, firewood and spare parts and another guy who had an FJ60 wagon.  We were both pretty heavy but very well balanced front to rear.  I think the rear ballast plays...  Go for it.

imo it would be better to have the back full of snow.

Yup. Everytime I go to the snow in a truck we have always loaded the bed with snow for traction. It makes a good ice chest also.

When I lived in Nevada City, thats what I did with my gfs extra cab. Packed the bed with as much snow as I could. Helped out a ton.

Yes the added weight will help out a lot w/traction, the extra weight will also help smooth out the highway ride.

I think the snow is alot like sand.
Cause when I've waited the back down Ive always had better traction cruising in the sand.
So I think it would work out pretty good.

having a shell in the snow is great the dry space is really convenient. Seems like every tree hanging into the road drops a crapload load of snow on the truck. It's annoying having to dig through a bunch of snow to find my gear lol.
