Turbo 22re with auto?
« on: Sep 17, 2010, 02:09:49 PM »
I'm going to build a new buggy, and I'm thinking a turbo 22re with a auto tranny that's from a 2wd 22re truck. I,m looking for input on this trannys strength and reliability, with around 150-175 hp.

Well considering it's the same trans the the 4.0 liter Jeep guys are running, the durability seems rather good. Also it's the same trans found in Supra's, which are definitely more than 175hp.

Personally not a fan of the auto due to the power robbing effects, but the autos are cheap we can't give them away in our area. So if you shell one your not out alot. I've been sitting on mine for about 4 years asking $100 and no takers. Just a tip Toyota used the same auto behind 22re, 22rte, and 3.0 engines. The 3.0 just used a different bellhousing.

It will soak up around 15% of your HP, I ran one in my 4Runner 22ret and even with the turbo you could feel it.

The 22ret was rated at 135hp, with an inter-cooler and the boost turned up/larger turbo he should be able to get to his targeted mark.

Let me know how this setup works. I am thinking about doing the same thing in a buggy build.
