Topic: which 4runners came stock with 4:56 gears?

Im wanting to do a 4runner project and pull the 3liter and put in a 22re.  Have a good donor motor.  But what do i have to look for to get one with the stock 4:56 gearing.  My buddy had a 95 v6 5 speed and it had em.  Do they all?  Any help would be great.  Thanks

i think the v6 rigs that had 31's stock

Yeah you might already have them, the 4 runner with 31's stock v6 auto has the 4.88, that is what I am currently on the hunt for.  I am still new to toyota stuff for the most part but I believe from what I have read for models the V6 didn't have 4.10.  I am still on a learning curve though.

Any 3rd gen truck or 2nd gen Runner that came w/factory 31's and a 5-spd had the 4.56 gears.  My sister's 95 Runner w/3.0 and auto had the 4.56's, and stock tires, though I am not sure what year Toyota started this, or if it was limited to Runners only.

You will need to look for the gear code on the door plate, which is located in the lower right corner(sticker's lower right corner), to the right of the bar code, and above the "In" in "Made In Japan".  The code for 4.56 gear ration is G254.  The G is for the 8" diff, the 25 is for the 4.56 gears, and the 4 is for the # of pinions.
