i have about 3" on my 81 with RUF and f150s on 35s and it needs 37s.  4" uptravel at all 4 corners.  you need to look at build threads and think about what you want to use your truck for and then buy springs that fit your application. i have $50 in my setup and it works very well...i just couldnt see spending $5-600 on leaf springs, that money could be spent better elsewhere on the truck.  i have ridden in trucks with more lift and where we wheel(lots of muddy hills, off camber descents) a little lower(and some width) helps you feel a lot more stable.  front springs- top three leaves from 81 pack,  bottom leaves from 87 pack cut down.  rear springs-f150 main and second leaf, 88 toy leaf, chevy antiwrap.    good luck with your build.
Im like Hugh Hefner minus everything good about his life.

Marlin springs. Wagoneers and Chevy 63s. Toyota rears up front. Ford F150 rears.

Alll great springs. Depends on your budget and availability. I run the stock waggys and the 63s and I love it. I know a lot of people that use many combinations of the aforementioned springs, and they are all a good choice in my opinion.

Check out the Toyota FAQ on pirate4x4:

Great place to start and to research a variety of spring options (and build/tech info). Look for first gen builds on here and see what people have done, and what they like/dislike. Like I said, any of the springs I mentioned are a great set up. Just gotta know what you want. I ran a variety of springs before I settled on the stock wagoneers/chevy 63s. Have not been happier with the springs.

You will never get a solid, general consensus answer on what springs to run. Look around and see what appears to suit you best for what you want and need.

Most common thing I have been seeing is the F-150 in back and packing the rears up front.  Also the F-150 springs are already flipped if you go pull them at the junk yard, thats what i did.  For the front I spent alot of money on the SAS, next build will be no where close to as spendy.  I am working with an 89 extra cab.  If you want to look it is 89 x-tra cab w/22re in the build forum.
