Where can I buy just trunion bearings?
« on: Jul 30, 2010, 06:00:18 PM »
I just rebuilt my front axle and didn't change the trunions. I figured out my positive camber and sloppy steering is because my trunions are shot.

Where can I buy just trunion bearings? I don't want to buy a full rebuild kit nor do i want to rebuild a front axle again.

Thanks.

Yes you need to remove the knuckle to replace them. There is some site online that sell timken bearings which are good. I think when I priced them it was 90 shipped for 4. No cheap.

No kidding, $95 for the kit and it comes with the bearings.  Sounds like a no brainer!

schucks /napa part number is 30303

go into schucks and tell them to look in the book. not the computer, nobody could find them in the computer. 30 seconds in the book and it was right there.

Knuckle rebuild kit will be the best value with the best bearings you can get besides toyota dealership quality.  I just checked online, autozone wants 32 bucks for just one timken bearing.

I ran TGs trunion bearings Hard for two years no problems. :dunno: I only went that route cause marlin was out of the Straight axle rebuild kit.
Make sure you take your time and shim them correctly.

If you don't shim the knuckles right it could cause excessive wear on the new bearings and cause them to fail prematurely. I've read on 4crawlers website that .040 Is the thickness most people use or start with. Also if you have a fish scale it sais when the right amount of shims are used it should take between 7-13 ft lbs to turn the knuckle without the rubber and felts.
You want the same thickness of shims top and bottom.
And I would say properly shimmed trunnion bearings will last longer and take more abuse before failing or wearing out then improperly installed trunnion bearings. :twocents:
