Fuel tank ideas??
« on: Jun 14, 2010, 12:11:23 PM »
I've got an 84 sc/sb that I put a 1st gen 4runner body on, the fuel tank that was under my flatbed will no longer work
with this set-up ( It hangs down too low)

Here's a link to it : http://board.marlincrawler.com/index.php?topic=50836.msg726042#msg726042

I've got a friend that works in a fab shop that offered to make a fuel tank at cost for me. So I'm thinking around 25gal. (30x30x7)
between the rear frame rails. My big concern is the position of the filler neck in relation to the tank, its going to have a sweep in it but the fuel cap is still higher than the tank inlet, (see green line in pic)

with the vent on the tank i'm thinking it'll be ok, but i don't want a truck that's a pain in the rear to fill.... I don't want to cut into my rear seat space, but i suppose i could cut into the inner body panel and partially run the filler neck through the wheel well to the tank.

What do you think?
all i want is a little more than i'll ever get!!

just move the filler door assembly tp behind the rear tire,  cut a couple inches away from the door on all four sides then match that on the back, use the piece that comes out of the back to fill the hole in the stock location.

I've looked at the pirate 4x4 thread on ford tanks .
http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=484247&page=2

I've got a carbed ford tank, it has no vent pipe for one, so i'd have to solder one in, and I've got a chevy pump in my existing con-ferr tank now so i'd have to cut a hole in the ford tank to accept the pump/ring assembly, I don't think it's worth the extra work. I can get the custom tank built for about $150.

just move the filler door assembly tp behind the rear tire,  cut a couple inches away from the door on all four sides then match that on the back, use the piece that comes out of the back to fill the hole in the stock location.

I'm thinking about doing that, I guess I'm still wanting to hear somebody tell me I can use the stock fill location without the pump clicking  off.....
all i want is a little more than i'll ever get!!

Do something so you can fill it through the tailight area after you've made a hinge for the light.  Just a thought...
