Safari web browser
« on: Dec 30, 2009, 11:14:27 AM »
Two things I guess...

is there an option to hide the bizillion emoticons when starting a new topic. I ask because I couldn't even finish the title and first sentence of this thread without my laptop's fan kicking in... I'm not doing anything but typing. (yes, I know I need a new and faster laptop)

also, I can't search the forums with Safari... I have to use Firefox. I like safari. I hate firefox.

Have you updated your Safari browser lately? That might help

unfortunately, it is probably due to the G4 IBM processor on my 4.5 yr old powerbook. No one is making software that is backwards compatible to it anymore. :pokinit: :pokinit:... :pokinit:.

I'm so wanting a new mac but I'm in the middle of switching vehicles, starting another F'ing bachelors degree,

I'll see what Mike (the webadmin) has to say about this. I am pretty sure the forum is supposed to be Safari compatible - but I think it needs to be an updated version of Safari.

Good luck on the degree - I'm headed that way myself :hammerhead:

Safari is compatible, but since it is one of the lesser used browsers.  Mike didn't spend alot of time making sure everything is compatible.  So that might be why it seems to load slow up your comp.  Maybe you should look into a cheaper notebook.  I'd love to have a Apple laptop, but for the coin, I can buy alot of Marlin parts.

Sorry for the trouble with Safari. I have plans to upgrade this forum to the newer 2.x branch and will optimize the theme at the same time. I also have different plans for our smileys that I think everyone will appreciate  Regarding the search feature, it is in shambles, it's a huge mess. It really doesn't work at all in my opinion. The new forum software has a much improved search capability.

But for now I am sorry but I'll have to ask for your patience and apologize for your inconvenience.

I've been using IE8 and do not like it at all, very slow! I have highspeed service and IE8 runs like I'm on dial up.
I just started using Google Chrome and it works pretty darn good, much faster the IE8. A few bugs but they are working to correct them. Going to use it until something better comes along.

Most of us fun Firefox, and it works way better than most of the browsers out there.

Agreed. I was an IE fanatic... I wouldn't listen to anyone when everyone told me to switch to Mozilla... well, I switched for a day and haven't looked back. Mozilla is a LOT faster than IE and it has better features as well.

Update,

I am almost ready to update our Store website (just updating the backend to be quicker and more stable). After that, I am going to update the forum  If I'm lucky I'll get the forum updated before the Round Up this fall
