86 4runner Lift?
« on: Mar 11, 2010, 09:18:03 PM »
My downey 3inch rear leaf springs just took a crap last thursday. Put on some 4inch skyjackers tonight and whoa!! Too high in the back. Torsion bar is maxed already. Gotta lift the front about 3inches at least. Any ideas? Thanks. Tony 773-301-5887. Gonna put some downey torsion bars on this weekend but skeptical. My leafs broke and had them on for about 2 years. That's it. No offroading and she's my daily driver. You could'nt cut them off that good. Never seen them brake like that.

yeah your effed. your not going to get the front of an ifs high enough off the ground without some serious modifications... more than tortion bars at least. and there is no reason those leaves should break like that. i would be on the phone with downey over that one.

Downey just went belly up last year. I'm so lucky. Any ideas would be a great help. I need to up in the front about 2 inches. That should be enough. My 32inch goodyear mtr's look like 13's now.

I bought a set about a month ago. I don't think that's gonna help me though. What about the ball joint spacers from TOYTEC?

do a 1.5" Ball Joint spacer... TRDparts4u.com or 4crawler sells them ran them on my 94 ext cab I use to have and they were great or the blazeland kit that just came out it nets about 2-4" of lift depending on where you set your t-bars

I was thinking spacer too, good quick easy lift and gets you a little more travel too.

For starters you need to ditch the 4" lift springs in the rear, you re never going to lift the front 4" to level out the rig, other than using a 4" bracket lift kit.

4Crawler has a much better price and he has been supplying them the longest.  You will also need new upper and lower ball-joints, an alignment, and longer shocks.  You can get longer shocks from NAPA for about $20/ea.

To clear the 32's, this is what can be done(cheapest option first):
1) BFH to clear them in the front, not suspension lift needed.
2) 2" body lift, no suspension lift needed.
3) 1.5" BJ spacers, and 3" longer shackles
For all of the above, I would add an additional main leaf spring to an oem packs.  The additional main leaf will support the weight of the Runner top, wont stiffen the ride, and will prevent the sag you see on most Runners and trucks w/camper shells.

Unless you are running a winch bumper and winch, don't expect the 26mm bars to ride that much better than the stock bars when cranked up for the 1.5" of lift.
