Opinions on Direction I Should Go (Cab Swap)
« on: Feb 01, 2010, 03:26:41 PM »
Ok I posted about this before but wanted some opinions on guys familiar with the electrical systems on these trucks and the fact its my first time undertaking something like this. Im swapping the cab on my 84 Toyota (rolled) with a 88 2WD cab. I know I need to cut holes in the floor for 5spd and x-case but heres my question. The 88 has a majority of the dashboard still intact, so...

1) Would it be easier to leave the dash in the 88 and try and hook everything up from my 84 to it?

2) Strip the 88 down to no dash, and swap the 84 dash into it?

3) Or my easy "custom" idea and whatever I cant get to work, make a little "control pane" where the HVAC controls are since im not running heat and the idea of having AC is a joke. I think that might make this whole operation easier.

Strip everything out and put all of the 84 stuff in the 88 cab. All u need is a screwdriver and a 10mm, 12mm, and 14mm socket. Why dont you want heat. Does it not get cold where you live?

I know they are all possible Im just looking for the easiest route. I just dont know if I should strip the 88 cab and put the 84 stuff in or get the 88 dash to work with the 84 wiring which looks possible. So far the board looks pretty split! Haha.

It gets cold up here but its not going to be a DD but just legal enough to get it on the road in NY. Just needs to pass a saftey inspection which is pretty much just light, seat belt, and front and rear glass.
