ok so I haven't searched at all but I am pretty knowlegable and can't figure out this problem.

So I swapped motors in my 2wd because she had a hole in the block. Ok so heres the specs its an 87 22re block and head swapped all sensors and everything from the existing motor in the 2wd has the intake and everything off the 2wd so all I swapped was the long block. The motor I swapped is bored .20 over has a stage 2 cam brand new head valves seats yada. I would say it has like 1500 to 2000 miles on it. Long story short I built the motor about a year ago and he traded the truck it was in for another one bought the motor from the kid and its sat for a while. I haven't changed the plugs in it and it has the old wires from the 2wd, I will be changing shortly.


With that said it runs not but runs pretty rich. It loads up if I keep it at steady throttle and the trucks not under a load it sputters hard core kinda jumpy and what not. when I first got it running I let it idle warm up and hwen I went to move it it jsut cut out and wouldnt go. After that I messed with the timing got it best I could by ear and just drove it and it progresivly started to rev out so now it revs out but cuts out when its not under a load or held at a steady rpm. When its idling and i romp on it it blows black smooke like its really rich. I can't figure out why it would do this since everything is still the same fuel and air wise. The air cleaner is clean and shouldn't be the problem. I was wondering if anyone has had this problem and if it could be the timing maybe? I am going to take my timing light to the shop and see if its off time or something but I just cant figure it out and its irritating lol.

I cant figure this thing out Its runing sooooo rich I finally threw the timing light on it is was a little to retarded but I advanced it and it rips even better now but still loads up if I am just lugging around and not in it to win it. I mean I like rompin but it needs to run cleaner for sure. Any ideaS? fuel pressure regulator? anything I cant find for answers from anywhere.

Try checking the 02 sensor, if its bad it can send the wrong information to the computer and could cause it to run rich. Also check the TPS, if its bad or not adjusted properly it can cause idle and drivability  problems.

Has anyone tried messing with the AFM?  If someone tried doing the 2-3 tooth adjustment, they could have adjusted it more and screwed up the air/fuel ratio pretty bad.

Bingo. I read for like 5 hours the other night and everything came back to the afm or the cold start injector. I took the afm or maf? what ever you wanna call it off my 89 and swapped them she runs perfect. Thanks for the help guys and I hope that helps any one in the future.
