Brake Caliper Bolt Spacing?
« on: Jan 25, 2010, 06:59:13 PM »
Can someone please tell me the brake caliper bolt spacing for the 1995 IFS brake calipers?

I'm searching for a more powerful front brake caliper than the IFS/vented rotor setup on a 1985 Pickup.

I've got a rear full float conversion from Front Range using 1995 IFS calipers & vented rotor and it locks up before the front brakes even using a proportioning valve.

I don't want to downgrade the rear discs but would rather upgrade the front calipers.

Does anyone have some options? I'd like to keep the Toyota front axle.

Thanks!

Sounds like you are having problems with your front breaks/weak. Not that you need a stronger caliper, but fix what you have.

I would check/replace you master cylinder, go with the 1" bore.

Check/rebuild/bleed your front breaks. You could also go with the V6 front calibers.

I might also check for play in the front wheel bearings. If they are a little loose, as you travel the wobble pushes the pads out and causing week breaking. A somewhat simple test would be to pump your breaks and see if the front tightenings up.

Nope, sorry. The MC is a Wilwood one, 1-1/8" bore and I'm using a T100 vacuum booster. It's plenty strong. The front calipers work good but are exactly the same as the rear setup.

I measured my rear calipers after I came home from work tonight. It's 3.5" bolt hole center to center...

Has anyone upgraded their front calipers to anything stronger than the 1995 V6 4x4 IFS setup?

Thanks.

Sounds like you need to adjust the prop valve.  Got too much pressure going to the rears.  Especially, if you have no weight in the bed.  Try it again with about 500#'s of weight back there.  If I hit the brakes too hard on wet pavement, the rears lock up on my stock truck, even with the prop arm still attached.
