Normal government
« on: Oct 07, 2009, 01:32:48 AM »
A clunker that travels 12,000 miles a year at 15 mpg uses 800 gallons of gas a year.
A vehicle that travels 12,000 miles a year at 25 mpg uses 480 gallons a year.

So, the average Cash for Clunkers transaction will reduce US  gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.

They claim 700,000 vehicles so that's 224 million gallons saved per year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.

5 million barrels is about 5 hours worth of US consumption.
More importantly, 5 million barrels of oil at $70 per barrel costs about $350 million dollars

So, the government paid $3 billion of our tax dollars to save $350 million.

We spent $8.57 to for every dollar saved.
How good a deal was that ???
They'll probably do a great job with health care though!!

Ah but remember, they own part of 2 car companies now so they wanted to help make their sales figures look better.   Then there is sales tax on the cars and import taxes on imported vehicles that were sold under the clunkers program.  So in esscence it was an investment using our tax dollars to ultimately get more of our tax dollars.

.....Stay tuned for the next "change" as promised.

I read that each one of us is going to pay close to $10,000 in taxes to pay for everyones new cars that they will probably have repossessed anyway because they can't make the payments.

....and get this when it comes to tax time you have to report the cash for clunker money as income, unlike if you just sold it or traded it in. Typical government bending you over and you won't even feel it going in your :moon: until your taxman lets you know about that little part of the program.

They may be saving money on gas now but there is another bill working its way through DC that will change that if it is passed.......
