Right Locking Hub hard to lock
« on: Nov 03, 2004, 05:58:52 AM »
On My '94 4wd toyota pickup, my right hub is incredibly hard to lock.  I almost need a large pair of pliers to do it with.  My Left Hub locks fine, smooth and easy.  I just bought the truck like a month ago.  Does anybody have any suggestions?

How difficult is that to do, is it bout like rebuilding a CV axle?  Harder or Easier

They are very easy. First pull it apart and make sure its clean inside. You may just need to grease it. Just pull the 10mm bolts out and then slide the hub off. Be careful about turning the hub while its out, hold on to both side of it when you do it. It's a very simple design.
When you put it back togeather be careful not to over tighten the bolts, they're only 10's and they are going into aluminum.
Oh ya, they are aisin hubs right, not warn (i hope).

Nope, they are what ever came on the truck.  So by "re-building it" that just means add some grease?

There really isnt much to rebuild on them other than as you said cleaning and regreasing them along with replacing the gaskets.  Thats about it.
Full hydro, 186:1 with an auto and 44's what could go wrong??

Sometimes the spring will break, but that doesn't sound like your prob, but it's possible.

just use a real thin amount of grease.
if you use to much the hubs will stick when you try and unlock them.
learned that the hard way.
