coil issue...
« on: May 31, 2009, 05:33:05 PM »
hey... i have an 83 Celica Gt 22-re motor in my 81 p/u. I just bought a coil off of a guy here on the board yesterday, but i noticed that the 2 leads (green connectors) on my coil are a single prong and a dual prong. The one that i bought  is out of an 85 runner and has a dual and a triple prong. My question is...Can i  use it still or would i have to find another celica...which is hard to find here on marlin.

If it's just the connectors, you should be able to switch them around by removing the nuts on the posts.....

the leadds in questions are not the ones with nuts, they are the 2 leads that off of the ignitor.

Drayday- No, i need efi ignitors. I did a EFI swap a couple years ago using a Celica GT 22-RE instead of gettin one out of a EFI truck. Its been a headache... I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SWAP!
Anyway, i have a thought,... how do i test just the ignitor to see if its bad?

knee- I have had a problem with the setup in my truck since i put it all in becuz i have the entire harness from power locks/windows to headlights to courtesy lites, cruise control, etc etc.. Becuz Toyota harness splice power from other circuits, im a little hesitant on just goin in there and just cutting wires i dont need. I feel that this is part of my problem too. So, with that being said, i think that im either gonna swap in a TRUCK EFI motor and harness or find another Celica GT and take the harness out and ship it to OFFROADSOLUTIONS in CO and see what they can do for me.

My 81 had the goofy smaller coil and a seemingly integrated ignitor, but the 80 and the 86 I got the ignitor from use a pretty universal coil.  My current coil is an msd unit.

Im gonna get (lookin for) a MSD 6AL box and a non-ignitor coil. Then im gonna take the harness back out of the truck and create a stand alone type system. Thanx for the input. I really appreciate it.
