TPS (please delete)
« on: May 02, 2009, 08:55:22 PM »
pretty simple...i need a well working tps thats in spec, asap. its for an 85 22re 4runner. most of the 85-87 models should work, some of the later style 22re'a had a oval looking tps output with a different style clip. the one i need is the standard rectangle one. located in Chico CA

Location? Also do you have any other info like year & model? Not all years are interchangable. I have one for an 89 22re in Fremont CA (SF Bay Area)

You need one from an 85. The 86-87 is different. I ran into this problem a few years ago.

The problem I had was trying to smog it. My 87 4Runner ran fine with the 85 TPS but I couldn't set the timing correctly. I did some research & found that the 85 TPS is different than the 86-87. I had an 87 TPS & installed it, problem solved.

i have one for sale, dont know if it works or not though, got it with a bunch of parts with my engine, name your price, and it's yours

it has the old school toyota emblem on it, with a part number of 89452-12040, it is a denso part, and says also 198500-0330

looks to have a 4 prong, rounded cornered, rectangular plug on it

hey jimbo, im pretty sure you have what im looking for but its kinda hard to tell from the picture, but if it looks like this... with the square end then good.
this picture is kinda hard to see but this is the tps from the later models which i cant use...because the plug is far more rounded
and if there's any ways you can check it with an ohm meter, we could tell whether its good or not. as long you can twist the dial to any position and the ohms don't jump around while your holding it there, then it should be good. if its bad... then for example (on mine) at full throttle when you test it, the ohms jump around drastically while in the same throttle position...acting as if someone was moving the position of the sensor, yet you aren't.
