BF Goodrich 32" x 11.50" Tires Question
« on: Dec 03, 2008, 06:35:48 AM »
I have 32 x 11.50 bfgoodrich mud terrain tires, A guy told me I don't need to carry a spare tire with me because the 32 mudders will drive with no air, is this true, because I hate that spare slidding around in my bed.

I would carry a spare.  A super swamper type tire MIGHT run ok without air, but not a BFG.  I couldn't go with zero air pressure with my 33s or 35s and they are BFG Muds.  I ran the 33s on my 85 truck as low as 5 psi in the snow, but the bead was starting to leak.

its not a mud but its still a bfg, this is what happened when I got a flat with no way to change so I had to drive on it. Not only did these happen but from the wheel rubbing the inside of the tire there were handfulls of rubber shavings.

:rofl2: That's funnay, trust me if a BFG has no air you will not be driving on anything but the rim,  but if only one side is flat just jack it up and run it on the other side for a while. :gap:

I have ran my 33" BFG AT's all the way down to 1lb in fresh powder and they have stayed on, though, I wouldn't recommend it in hard pack or on any other type of terrain.

Absent double bead locks, no tire is going to stay on a rim long at 0psi.

Just tie down the spare, fab/buy a mount, or carry it under the bed where it still fits.

Any ideas on mounting the spare in the bed, I can't take it sliding around back there, the bedliner don't help.

Ratchet straps are your friend.  Or fab a mount, if you can.  Standing up, laying flat, secure it somehow.  If you (God forbid) get it a serious accident, that tire will become a projectile, and if it hurts/kills someone, you can and most likely will be held liable.

You can usually fit a 33" tire in the oem spare location.  If you cut the ends off of the guides/or cut & extend the guides it will raise all the way up.

Technically the guy is right.  It *can* run at 0psi, but don't expect the tire to be *re* inflatable.  Maybe get a mile out of it, tops.   That said, I have a standard stock size AT tire as a spare.  Kind of like a 4x4 "doughnut" as it were.  fits in the stock location, so it's no problem at all to have along.

That's exactly what happened to me (that might explain a few things!). I had mine cable-locked to a D-ring in my old Runner, I got rear-ended at a stop light and the tire broke the D-ring and mashed my noggin! She was doing about 55mph!

EDIT: Oddly enough, the tire was a BFG 32x11.50!

He might be talking about what happened to a guy I know he has a Nisan hardbody and was running these funky old HD tires like load range E or something way to heavy for his truck and they had super stiff sidewalls but he was able to drive home with zero air in one just took it slow on corners.  I have to agree no way on BFG.
