83 toyota Advice
« on: Jul 17, 2002, 04:14:04 PM »
:bowdown:I have an 83 Toyota short box. I would like any info on putting a bigger engine then what is in it the 22r, and a transmission that will work with the bigger engine.  One that will bolt in, and give me more power on the highway same with the trany.  I am starting out simple but this could turn into something bigger.   I would like to beef the truck up with tires and some other modes I have not yet decided what best fits what I want.  Could a newer trany and engine fit, what years of toyota will work.

Ummmm,
:conf:
Ummmm,
What do you want it for, what does it need to do?

I guess you can get a 3.0 V6.  That's bigger.  But I don't think you want that.
The Toy 3.4 V6 is a good swap.
The Chevy 4.3 V6 is a popular swap.
If ya want a lot of power, a 350 or 383?
I have 2 305 Chevy engines, 1 mostly complete, a torque converter for a TH350 tranny, and a whole bunch of stuff to go with that I'd sell for $300.  Was gonna go into an El Camino w 305, but decided on a 4 bolt 350, then strocked to a 383

Love my High Output Mustang Ford 5.0 V8 in my 83...

Are you a good welder and fabricator? NO engine swap will be "basic"
