$2000.00

That's what it's gonna take to fix my ABS system on my van, if I decide to!!

Our Chevy Venture vans ABS light has been on for a while.  And today I take it in to get it diagnosed.  They come out and tell me that basically the "brake pressure modulator" is faulty.  And that it will be $2000 for a replacement.  :yikes:  :shocking: :yikes:  :shocking: :yikes:  :shocking: :yikes:  :shocking: :yikes:  That is without labor!!  But on the good side, the brakes still work just fine, I just don't have ABS system preventing my brakes from locking up.   :yesnod:  They actually feel better without ABS, and the van actually stops better without it.

OH!  And I can look around for a used one if I can, and they (the dealer) will install it for me.  I can't imagine what a used one would cost me.  I still owe $3000 on the van.  At least they got the light to go off on the dash!

I ain't doing it.  It's one of those things that you can see it under the hood, but you would have a pain in the ass to get to it!  Just like the brake master cylinder, just to fill it up, I have to get a long flexible hose, cause its way up under the dash/windshield.  The brakes work fine.  They designed the system that the ABS is piggybacked on the brakes, and if the ABS fails, the brakes still work.

I love our van, but its such a pain in the ass to work on.  I've heard of guys cutting holes in the floorboards, just to be able to get to the back 3 spark plugs!

I'm gonna pay this thing off ASAP.  And then find a newer rig, I'd love to get a yukon/tahoe, but they just don't get the gas mileage I'm looking for in a family rig.

Unplug the ABS error light and trade it in to a Chevy Dealer.  Let them have their lemon back.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

The light is off on the dash.  If it ever comes back on, I'll just get out the black electrical tape.  Hell, it stops better now than it ever has.

Who needs anti-lock anyways, if you know how to do it right you don't need it. Anti-locks actually caused a wreck for me, I was so used to pumping in an emergency stop situation that one day in a panic I forgot I had them and started pumping. Didn't turn out very good since I think I was pumping while the system was too. I ran smack into the back of that van.

Abs has nothing to do with stopping your vehicle faster.  Abs equipped vehicles will always have a longer stopping distance than a non abs vehicle.  Abs is on the car so that you have directional control during heavy braking.  If your front wheels lock up and skid, who knows which direction your car will head.

And for those thinking it, no, you can't pump your brake pedal as fast as the abs module can.

Now that I've said, that, yes, if the abs system isn't operational, the base hydraulic brakes will still continue to work normally
