How to blow up your Computer CPU
« on: Nov 08, 2008, 05:07:55 PM »
If you are a computer nerd such as myself, you will be entertained by this.

I have a couple of friends from Hungary and these guys sounds exactly like them, so this vid seems a bit closer to home for me :gap:

I've always wanted to do this myself with a couple old PCs I have laying around but now someone else did it for me :gap:

If nothing else, perhaps you'll get a good chuckle from it

Yeah they used AMD processors, and they don't do to well when they are overclocked!  But I love the hole in the desk!

do you have to run any specific "process intense" program or just idle on the OS while removing the heat sink?

There was a link on that video's page to a youtube video showing comparisons between a couple of Intel processors and AMD processors.   It show why Intel products are superior in quality.

I don't think that is fair. Just because an intel chip will handle more heat doesn't really make it a better CPU. "better", IMO is tested in terms of what a processor needs in terms of power consumption, processes required while running and the necessary chipsets on the MB. AMD boards are always much cleaner and run faster and smoother with less crashing than an Intel in my experience. Yes, they run warmer, but that is the price you pay for performance, and hell...that's why they have water cooling. :twocents:

The crazy thing was how the thing literally blew itself up in under a second.  AND put a big hole in the table...

Its not that Intel can handle more heat it just has thermal protection built into it.   I work on computers for a living and I can honestly say that 100% of the time when I work on an AMD computer that had a lousy ten dollar fan fail it cooked the motherboard and procesor too.  As far as crashing goes it is very rare to have hardware be a cause of a crash these days unles your using the cheapest crap out there.

I was going to launch into a dissertation here, but I don't see the reason. It's simply a difference of opinion based on experience.
