My Locking Hub fell off
« on: Sep 24, 2008, 12:25:53 PM »
I have an 85 toy with what looks to be a set of stock lock out hubs on it, the alxe is welded.  I was driving around on some grass still in 4wd and took a turn and the hub fell off.  It snaped all 6 of the stucs that hold it on.  My question is "is this common" and what would cause this to happen?  Do I need to replace the studs on the other side?  Are they prone to breaking?

The nuts where not tight. Replace them with some FROR studs and forget about them forever.

You not only sheared off the studs you also broke off the two hardened locateing pins. Good luck on getting them out. I would just buy a new hub, much easier.

I've only seen that happen on a truck hammering it with 39.5" Irok's.   I'd bet they were loose.  You can get ARP studs for it you need stronger than stock Toyota.
YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE
AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU HAVE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.
