Ground Issues 83 22R
« on: Jun 06, 2008, 09:26:28 PM »
OK guys I'm not having much luck finding any threads about it so I'm gonna ask. I've had to jump my truck the last 2 days in a row. I know the battery isn't the best but it WAS OK. The truck has never wanted to start very easily, so I started looking around under the hood. I noticed that the ground from my battery runs to the fender and thats it.......... Is there any aftermarket kits you guys suggest? Or am I better off just adding a few grounds?

more wires....

i think that factory idea is screwy too... my battery is grounded to a bolt on the framerail, from that same bolt, i have a fat wire running to the engine block, and one from the bolt on the frame to the body..

it would be a good idea to replace the wires just to do it.... corrosion can hide in the wires under the insulation, and if the wires are old, its jsut good to replace them

Should be a ground running from the battery to the engine and one from the back of the engine to the firewall. Also if you have an amp meter instead of a volt meter you need to make sure that the connections on the back of the amp meter are good.

Thats FACTORY? wow! hell my old 77 HiLux the ground went from the battery to the fender to the frame and then to the engine, I figured the one wire on my 83 was from a previous owners hack.

I just did some work on the same system.  I have an 85 and the factory negative cable is grounded to the fender, and there's a ground from the block to the inside fender and one from the back of the cylinder head to the firewall.  I want to replace all 3 with heavier gauge wire and run a ground from the battery to the block to shore things up a bit!
