Topic: auto trans ?

I have an 86 xtra cab 22re with the auto and am having some problems with it. In D it shifts 1-2-4, if I start off by putting it in 2 it shifts 1-2-3 for a few miles then it shifts down into 2. Anybody have any similar issues?, a guy I know said he thought it was one of the solenoids?

sounds liek it is on its way out.... i would replace it with either a manual or a verified working transmission with no issues

Yeah I got a complete 5speed/topshift case and all the components to do the swap ,but id like to run the auto as long as I can since my son has yet to learn the manual thanks for the input.

Solenoids are usually the problem. I got mine here.

What a pita ,all gears are working, solenoids are fine ,no engine codes no tranny codes. If I start out easy on it it will go through the gears fine but normal driving it seems to skip third and go to fourth. I know this thing is controlled by the tps,vss and the ecu and the trans shift unit .Can my tps be set wrong but not thowing a code?, if I try to adjust it any from where its at it throws a tps code. I would like to run this auto as long as I can but I am at my wits end.I went to the link and tried everything even unplugging the trans control unit and it does as it says showing the trans itself is good. I even thought about running it like that since it gives me 1-3 and drive, but I know that will kill it. Any more input on the tps vss sensors before I swap it?

Sucks you're still having problems.  I never had to go that far.  Last weekend I changed the tranny oil and filter, put in an additive and I haven't had any problems yet.  knock on  .  My tranny is shifting fine now.  Good luck with yours
