Earth Hour
« on: Mar 26, 2010, 09:45:52 PM »
March 27th, 8:30 pm.  The only question is... who else is turning on all their lights and appliances for the hour  :gap:

Is that 8:30 pm for each time zone or does it vary depend on location?

I will do as I always do when someone comes up with a 'feel-good' gimmick -- ignore it.

Earth Day, Earth Hour, whatever... it doesn't matter one bit. I don't (knowingly) waste resources, and I've been that way for a long time. I didn't need someone to suggest it to me, either.

My goal in life is to be as a good a person as my dog already thinks I am.

If you don't learn something every day, you're not paying attention.

Well it's 9:45 pm here, I'll go ahead and turn all my stuff OFF now.  I turned everything I own on for the hour.

As long as they don't bring back Earth Shoes...I'm cool.

Should I go out and start all 4 of my vehicles, the weedwhacker, dirtbike, and lawnmower as well?  :gap:

Lights are on, just for shits and giggles.

That's a good idea!  I could start the lawn mower, 2wd (like it's gonna make a difference :haha: ), 4wd, the bike, and the landlord's tractor.

One of my garage door opener light bulbs was burnt out today, so I replaced it with a compact fluorescent............

How many green points is that?

My wife called from the Marriot where they are staying at, and said the hotel is having a reception at 8:30.  They are serving champagne and glow sticks!!   :rofl2: I asked her how much energy was used to make those glow sticks, and what nasty ass chemicals was used to make them.

funny thing to do with glow sticks -- bust them open and shake the stuff out on a hot wood stove and the chimney.  See what happens.
The stuff starts working its way up the chimney!  :yikes:

Break that feel good green light and see what the impact is  ;)  Stocker has it right, if people really want to make a difference they need to be more conscious ALL THE DAMN TIME!  I rarely have more than 1 light, computer and tv on at any given time and turn off the light when it's nice enough outside.  I don't leave a porch light on all the time like so many of my neighbors do.
RIP KYOTA

Exactly Nate.  I wish I could do that at my house.  With 3 kids, it just doesn't end.  Lights on all the time, tv/vcr/sat/stereo, washer and dryer going, and the mother in laws trailer plugged in.

I turned on all of my lights and appliances that i could , then went and washed my truck while it was running. Why you may ask? I did it not for "feel good about myself day" i did it for the "Remember we have/had rights and freedom day"

On a side note: That compact fluorescent you installed that they tell you is saving the planet.. Call poisen control and tell them you just broke one on your livingroom floor , and listen to the what they tell you do do. Then you tell me if is sounds like that bulb could save the planet.
If I hit it just right, I might make it.

  agreed!

I'm the same way nate.
I'm all about conserving energy, partly because it gets damn expensive! :gap:  Furnace is always turned down low, rarely more than 1 or 2 lights on, its just me so I typically only use one burner to cook, etc.
