dual case reassembly?(oil galleys)
« on: Mar 20, 2008, 06:52:30 PM »
I need a little guidance on the reassembly of my dual cases.  In the instructions it says remember where the oil galleys are but in the pic and in the instructions it does not say to reinstall them.  I know it is probably a dumb question but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

arent the galleys the canal shaped metal rod/pin things that go from the front to back of the case, because I thought they just helped in the assembly of the case.

Mine were being difficult, so I just left them out. over 1000 miles since then and this case hasnt blown up yet.

yes, you need those, the send oil to the rear bearing on the output shaft.

In the transfercase, or the crawl box?

in the full tcase

I'm guessing that's where the confusion is coming from...

EDIT: Atleast, that's part of what confused me.

can't be...they go in between cover 3 and cover 4 if I remember what the MC calls them. In the transfer section of the tcase.

I'm good then I was referring to the crawl box. also does anyone know where I can get a top shift case from I have two side shift cases and I know now I can use the side shift case for my crawl box but I need the top shift for the rear case. "I think"

do you mean a forward shift case not side shift case, where the t-case shifter is built into the transmision?

Duh!  yeah your right I have two Forward shift cases and I need the top shift one to finish to dual setup.  I'll trade my forward shift/money for a top shift case! Anyone? P.S. As a kid I liked the purple paint chips, they tasted like blue berries

there are ways to convert a forward shift to a top shift. i ponderd on the idea of producing top shift parts to convert them.

Yeah you can actually just swap the forward shift rails for topshift rails. Thats what I did when I bought my t-case. I used the top shift rails from my old one and put them in the new one. Its really not that hard.

You can convert your forward shift case to top shift by cutting off the front of the rails & grinding down the "forks" so that they can be welded further back on the rails where they would be on a top shift. Take your time when fitting/welding & be sure to leave enough rail sticking out so that it will stay in place when the rail is shifted rearward.

But its still easier and safer to just swap in the top shift frame rails.  :yesnod:  Theres no need for mods, they just fit right up.

affirmative ghostrider. he quit selling top shift parts because it requires the donation of a top shift case which are rapidly becoming harder to find. marlins business is basically based of the superior designed transfer case and by selling those parts takes away from his capabilities of producing more top shift cases.
