Cold Start Switch Dealer $$$
« on: Dec 06, 2007, 10:35:57 AM »
Parts counter wants $153 for a new cold start injector switch!!!  WOW.

Can I jump the plug to see if the injector fires during cranking?

Is it the injector or the time switch?

i believe you can hook a swith to the injector to get it to fire.

do you happen to have to part number for the switch?

Just get an ohm meter and check and see if it reads the correct amount of ohms. If not you know its bad.

And also check this out:

He can get you factory parts at his cost or whatever. Hes a cool guy. I called him to get some stuff before and he gets it out right away. I believe his name was Aaron but I could be wrong.
RIP Kyota.... you are the man

Thanks.

The switch ohms out at:

cold: 35.5 ohms
hot : 53.9 ohms

I think that's within spec. Next I'll try powering the injector directly and see if it sprays. It's definitely not spraying, because cold starts are obviously without enough fuel.... afterwards (HOT) the engine is running great and getting dialed in.

The injector checked out at 3.7 ohms, and doing the FSM tests showed that it sprayed a nice pattern under fuel pressure (fuel pump check jumper installed, battery leads straight to injector)

So, I'll have to see what else comes up for this cold start issue. When it's cold, the engine puffs briefly and then stops, then hitting the key a few more times will eventually get the beast to start.

I think the next test is to pull the injector out of the manny, and crank the engine over and watch to make sure the injector is actually spraying on crank.
