22R- RE conversion HELP

i am in the process of converting an 84 22r in to a 85 22RE i am having isues with the timing chain. the 22r's chain is 49 links long and the RE's chain is 48 links long. when i use the RE's chain it is way to tight and when i use the R's chain it is way to loose. what do i do?????

they are NOT interchangable ..  /85 is a "laser" block and has a different deck height ...

you will need to get the propper chain for the 85+

Are you using the 85 head on the 84 block?

You have to use the 84 head. The efi will bolt on just the same. There is no difference between a carb head and efi head
