do i take the cable out of the housing to grease it i have never Had to do this kind of thing before

there si a cable that runs inside a sheath... the sheath attached to the guage cluster via a large nut, unscerw it, then jsut wipe everything you can see down, and stick some grease on it, not too much as it will attract dirt, but enough.... then reattch it... the cable never actually leave the sheath
