Bad coil?
« on: Oct 04, 2007, 06:53:03 PM »
I have an 83 pickup that I just got done putting a complete motor from an 84 into.I had to swap the alternator and distributor from the old motor because the hookups were different. I tried to start it for the first time and it just cranked. I started smelling something electrical burning and it ended up being the coil. It got super hot and was popping and all kinds of crap. Before I noticed it was burning I checked the coil and distributor for power and there wasn't any the only power was coming from the wire in the main harness. Is there a ground wire that maybe I don't see that needs to be attached or checked? I don't remember seeing one and the coil worked fine in the old motor. Any help is appreciated
