Oh.. 5-pts and center 'oh :pokinit: ' bar! That's why Mark put a grab bar in the middle of the roof and not on the outsides.
We'll probably have more of a problem knocking our skulls together getting inboard then we will have with outside rocks.
Life is like a bowl of beer flavored chocolate covered dog turds.. it makes no sense. :pokinit:

Come to think of it I do have a pretty hard head, you sure you don't want one?

Been there and done that. Two heads cracking together is no fun. :ack:

Not a bad idea, but like someone else said, it will only be there to atack you when you aren't wearing it.

was looking at helmets while waiting for my new bike to be serviced yesterday, and the basic Bell skater type helmets were only $35. IMO cheap insurance

On a bike I will always wear a helmet, it is just plain stupid not to, same as a seatbelt. Sure at a point both become detrimental and my cause an injury themselves but at that point you were going so fast that you are probably a veg. anyways. I've seen plenty of motorcycle accidents at low speed that if the person was wearing a helmet they'd have walked away with no more than some road rash but since they were not wearing one they were dead, just that simple. I remember one vividly (since his brain was hanging out) from the eyewitnesses that saw him go down he was going around a corner at around 5-10 mph hit an oil spot and the bike stepped out from under him. He hit his head on the curb and split his skull open.

Now on the subject matter I have considered wearing a helmet offroad and just may someday just thinking on how little of an impact at the right angle on the right rock could pop the noggin' but never have since unlike a bike you should be strapped in so unless it's a major roll you should be ok. Now in an open top vehicle it is a little different and some may want to consider one, I seen a few Jeep owners crawl out of thier vehicle after a roll have a dent in thier head.

I would never wear a helmet while wheelin. I only wear my lap belt unless I get into and area that I have a good chance of rolling.  I have a buddy that wears a helmet on the trials.  I feel safer in my buggy than I do in my other trucks. I even had a DPS officer tell me that my buggy is probly safer for me than my other trucks.  :dunno:

Being as tall as I am, this is what would concern me.

Personally, I know I'm not going to hit my head on a rock outside the cab, rather I'm going to slam my temple and or cheekbone into the the window frame  :ack:

When I get around to putting a cage in my truck, the padding is going on nice and thick :yesnod:

Ya I'm pretty tall as well, and after reading this thread i checked it out in my truck.  My head is only inches from my B pillar it would take just one good sudden whip of the truck to give me some good smarts.

Here's a good way to encourage use in your rig. Remove all of the speakers from your stereo system, connect jacks for each seat, and get one of the Azonic helmets for each. No helmet, no tunes!! And, no, you would not HAVE to wear the helmet (unless you like music).

Not to be argumentative...but, how could wearing a helmet on a bike ever be bad?

on a bike? if the helmet hits at a bad angle even at slow speeds can cause neck injury unless u have a neck brace

this is common with younger kids. I know full face helmets are popular for kids but they weigh more than a regular helmet and can cause neck injuries. Did't Dale Earnhardt die from nect injuries that were caused by the weight and extereme movement that his neck couldnt handle. I doubt we would see any force that great while wheelin

Wow, this thread sure gained some momentum since I last saw it

Regarding seat belts, I was raised to respect them since day one. It is such a habit that I will naturally buckle up just to move my truck around in camp. However, I did notice that when I wheel with my doors off (have only done this once so far ), I did not buckle up as often as I normally do. The convenience factor of no doors + no belts == good times.

Regarding a helmet law being required for wheeling, it is totally retarded unless you are in a convertible, seriously. Think about it, dirt bikers and atv riders have no cage or hard top around them (unless its a Polaris or something). Therefore a helmet is a "practical" device to wear.

How about bicycle riding? Correct me if I am wrong on this, but I am under the impression that a bicycle helmet is required for any rider under 18 yrs of age, at least in CA. And I ride my mountain bike almost daily, and yet I **choose** to wear my helmet. I've mountain biked Dusy/Ershim three times, Rubicon countless times, Bald/Swamp/Red/Coyote/etc even Mountain biked from the top of the 7th water fall to Panamint City before the trail got closed down. Of course I was under the age of 18 back then, but I chose to wear my helmet; In the middle of no where I could have rode a bicycle without a helmet when I was under the age and I doubt I would have gotten a ticket?

Well I think that is awesome. And in fact last week on Monday I rode to work on my mountain bike with no helmet. The wind through my hair really felt nice, but I seemed to have more sweat running down to my eyes and I missed the visor on my helmet. So I've decided to continue wearing it. It is optional even and yet I am wearing it.

............. I just took a phone call and got off track and have lost my train of thought. :burnout: This post just experienced a train wreck

naw im talkin about just the normal helmet and the extra 1-2 inches ur head can be pushed causin more strain on the neck when u hit it at certain angles, still it feels nicer to hit ur head on the roof of a truck with a little padding

Well the more I thought about this and the more I see us lose fellow wheelers, I decided I would pick up a couple brain buckets.  One for me, one for passenger.

Yup...you can tell I really need to protect my head.  :shake_head:

Those will do the job, I don't think you'll need something like a motorcycle/NASCAR style helmet. Just something to keep the brain where it belongs.

My only concern is that I raised my seats up a bit for better viewing...I hope I can still fit my head in there with the helmet on.  Its gonna be close.
