Air Conditioning Removal
« on: Jul 18, 2007, 02:17:08 PM »
I've got a 94 4wd 22re truck that I am taking the AC out of.  Do I have to make any changes to get it to run properly without the ac in place?  Do any other components need to be removed, currently all that is left is the evaporator in the heater box.

Thanks

I didn't think so.  My 91 without AC has fewer VSV on the valve cover and less vacuum lines as well.  I'm assuming that it must idle up some with the ac on due to the load and I wasn't sure if this would have to be compensated for.

just make sure  you post the parts  for sale  or  pass them on to someone that needs them

besides that  once  you remove the a/c fuse  it  shouldnt make any difference

It is already off, I hadn't thought about it but I may sell it.  I live in VT so AC isn't nearly as important as good heat

I would be interested in a full A/C setup if anyone has one. My Deluxe model didn't even come with anything.

I pulled mine off about five years ago and have had no problems. I use the AC switch to turn on the OBA because it still activates the idle up. Last year I found a 91 in the boneyard that did not come with AC and I took the ductwork so I could remove the inside condenser. My heater seems to work better now without the condenser in there. When I installed the York, a couple of months ago it would not turn on with the AC switch. After a bit of troubleshooting I remembered that I took the amplifier thinge that was on top of the inside condenser box. After tracing the wires out and making a jumper, it works great.re.

Why remove it all the way?

Just cut the belt in case you ever change your mind.

All of it is removed already except the evaporator core in the heater box.  Sounds like I should be good to go as is.  I may sell the parts, gotta figure out what kind of prices things go for and what kind of shape my stuff is in.

I removed mine because it was becoming a PITA. I had just had it serviced and recharged, the next week went to the Con and was in the Big Sluice all flexed out when there was a loud hissing sound and a cloud out the grill. Thought I broke the radiator but it turned out I cracked the condenser and the cloud was a week old load of R-12. Looked at the wife and told here, "the AC is coming out and I am turning the compressor into OBA".

Then I bought a trailer and a CTD Dodge 2500 and it has not seen the street since!!!!!
