Topic: Quiet run vs. noisey gears

Searched around a little and have a few questions. I have 2 cases I plan to install shortly, one is an early type 1-B or 1-C from what I can tell, the other is a type 3. By the look of things, the only difference with the quiet run gears in the later case is the metal plates on the gears to keep them loaded and reduce noise. Is there any strength difference from one style to the other? Is one reduction box better suited to be the front one? I'm thinking at this point to use the later case as the rear one and the early one as the front, my only reason for this is that it will see more torque put to it and it being a newer and (presumeably) more refined case it should be slightly stronger? Any opinions on this from anyone who's been faced with the same deal?

i have noisy run gears and it isnt bad at all.

Not too worried about the noise, I've had several of the "noisey" early trucks and a few of the "quiet" later ones and have never really noticed a difference from one to the other aside from maybe a slight bit more reduction whine on my early ones. I'm mainly concerned in any strength difference before I decide which one goes in first and which one goes behind it.

i dont worry about it at all. i think my rear end or output will break before anything

i would think that you would want the newer one in back because it's stronger and the rear will have more trque aplied to it  .

If you compare the width of the two, you will notice that the noisey gears are slight wider due to the fact that the quiet gears are slightly more narrow in order to accommodate the run quiet plates.

However, I do not know if the material used is the same. Perhaps one has more nickel than the other? Perhaps a better annealing process was used? This I do not know.

Thanks for the information so far guys. Seems like strength is a non-issue really. Another question seeing as I still have you here. Which box do you find yourself using as your primary low range? Do you select 4wd with the rear shifter and throw the front box into low and then put the rear into low when needed or do you  put the rear into low and shift the front as needed? This is assuming 2 stock reduction cases of course. Sorry if I'm overthinking this.

i usually used my front case as low. as it would let me shift in and out of 4wd. like in the snow i can go a lot of places in 2wd and with 40s i need low to have some sort of power. now i have 4.7s in the rear case so i use the front case a whole lot more
