22R-E: No Power
« on: Mar 27, 2007, 10:04:10 PM »
My 88 pickup 22R-e, 260,000 recently began running very sluggishly; no first gear acceleration from a stop and I used at max third gear...it turned out my MAF unit was bad and was replaced. It ran all but normal for awhile during the last cold months of the season, but as it's warmed up outside I'm noticing a power loss over time. It's not as bad as it was with the bad MAF, but it's barely drivable on the highway (third gear up till 40,45mph (3200-3500 rpm), i'll shift to fourth and gain no speed, often times losing speed.) Is there something that could have gone wrong with intake where it ran much better (quicker acceleration, better gear to speed ratios) when it was very cold outside? I am pushing 33x12.50 grabber mts on 10 inch rims, stock gears, but the lack of power is astonishing.

checked the fuel filter lately?

diagnose the simple things. make sure you are getting ample fuel first. then start checking electrical.

x2, also have you been getting a check engine light on at all? It could be a failing O2 sensor. Just thought i would throw anther suggestion out there. :)
Starting from scratch again...

Mine was running like  :pokinit: so i replaced the injectors and that fixed it. It was running just like yours, the number one injectors tip Brock off and they had close to 300k on them so it was time any ways. I found them on ebay for like 160 i think and they were also balanced as well.

I really should have given more information :P

it has a brand new oem fuel filter on it, cut the catalytic off and ran a straight pipe in place of it, engine is throwing no codes and compression tests at about 155 per cylinder.....all of the above things were done/tested while trying to figure out the MAF problem...

sounds more of a fuel issue. you check fuel pressure yet? does it act up only under load? if you cant get it past 45 or so it sounds like as soon as a load is on it its not getting enough umph.
