doa racing engines or LCE in my opinion.  Doa's seem to be pretty affordable for what you get, and run great.  LCE is more for racing or a higher budget...lol.  check out DOA though.

Please be very careful if you choose doa and think about what doa means.

I've heard so much bad and good stuff about all these motor supplier's.  I almost don't know who to trust anymore!  One person says DOA, LCE or engnbilder.  And the next says they all suck!  I want a new motor for mine but I don't want to put out a chunk of change and have them go bad!  It's frustrating!

call the BBB and ask how many complants atarco has :o if you want an engine rebuilder that paints over the dirt on the block, or uses oversized piston, which in there case are .002" knerald on the skirts, and have barbage hasting rings.  and rissing sun engines are probly just as bad.  do some research, and dont cheap out.  get one from lce, doa, or ct engineering in sacramento (916) 852 1032.

i dont know if engnbldr sells complete engines... ted is a good guy and knows his stuff though.....

i have heard tim @ doa knows his stuff and is amazing with what he can do, but i have heard he is is a jerk, and dealing with customer service with him sucks

as far as lce goes, they are top notch with awesome customer service, their stuff is just really $$$$$ :bling: if i were rich i would get lce stuff

If you are worried about it try Toyota to see what kind of exchange programs they offer. I'm sure it won't be cheap, but it should have to comply with Toyota standards.

BTW, lets keep the name calling to a minimum. Just post up your ideas and leave it at that.

You may even just have a reputable shop rebuild your with good parts. Most mass re builders are going to use cheaper parts to keep costs down.

ATK has good engines, just not super cheap.  The only place I knew of that carried them before was downey, but I see in this month's flyer that lc engineering is going to be carrying them also, so you may wanna look into that.  A local engine shop tried telling me that atk just rebadges jap import engines, but the same business went down the tubes too.

Looking at gas & diesel prices lately, get a used 2002 Volkswagen Jetta or Golf half-cut with a 1.9L turbodiesel from http://car-part.com/ , then go to http://www.acmeadapters.com/store_engine.php and get an adapter to mount it to your 5-speed Toyota tranny. That's what i'm planning on doing. I'll have 120 HP, and with 25-30mpg, my wallet will be happier at the pump.

And if you insist on a new crate motor, it'd be smarter to get a 3RZ, not a 22RE...I think BigMike said he's getting 18mpg at 65-70pmh with a lifted 1st gen on 35's, and 150ish HP...stock. That's what i'm planning on doing to my other XtraCab.
