5M-GE Swap
« on: Jan 26, 2004, 10:55:44 AM »
I have a 85 truck with an 86 frame and am in the middle of swapping a  :bowdown:5M-GE into it. For now I will use the w56 tranny and transfer case, but with over 130,000 miles on on the tranny I am not sure how it will hold up. Does anyone know if a transfer case can be mounted onto the Supra w58 tranny?

The tailhousing bolt patterns are the same but you need to tear the tranny apart and swap in the output shaft from the w56.Also you end up with the supras gear ratios.

The W58 trans 1st gear is 3.295 ratio and the W56 is a 3.954

The W58 shares the same bearings, syncrows, center support gaskets ect., so a 4WD output shaft, extension housing, and components could be used, but who wants a 3.295:1 first gear?
